Master Program of Clinical Pharmacy held a 1st batch Basic Clinical Pharmacy Workshop

from 11-13 April 2019, which received 21 SKP from PD IAI DIY. In the first batch this time, participants came from various backgrounds from various parts of the country. In addition to the hospital pharmacists who were dominant as participants, pharmacists at the health center and academics institution also attended the event.

In the opening ceremony, the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy UGM represented by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation and Alumni, Dr. Endang Lukitaningsih, M.Sc., Apt., revealed that the Faculty appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants and the entire committee involved in this Workshop. Chairperson of the committee, Prof. Dr. Zullies Ikawati, Apt., also said that through this Workshop it was hoped that it could become a venue for sharing the experiences in clinical pharmacy services and sciences.

For three days, participants were given material by academics and practitioners of hospital pharmacy. On the first day, Dra. L.Endang Budiarti, M.Pharm., Apt., as the speaker delivered material related to the role of pharmacists in patient safety. According to her, several things that need to be considered include risk assessment, identification and management of patient risk, reporting and analysis of incidents, and the ability to learn from incidents and their follow-up. Then also the implementation of solutions to minimize the occurrence of risks and prevent injuries caused by mistakes due to carrying out an action or not taking the action that should be taken.

According to Endang, both pharmacists who work in public health centers and hospitals, should implement safety standards for patients. To minimize medical errors, a pharmacist should identify correctly, and improve effective communication between pharmacists and patients. On the other hand, pharmacists also need to play a role in improving the safety of medicines that must be watched out for, and how to reduce the risk of infection due to health care.

Besides Endang Budiarti, in this Workshop other speakers will also be present, namely Prof. Dr. Zullies Ikawati, Apt., Dr. Fita Rahmawati Sp. FRS., Apt., Dr. Nanang Munif Yasin, M.Pharm., Apt., Prof. Dr. Agung Endro Nugroho, M.Sc., Apt., Dr. Tri Murti Andayani, Sp.FRS., Apt., And Dr. Widyati, M.Clin Pharm. Seeing the enthusiasm of pharmacists who are quite high, Zullies said that the Master Program of Clinical Pharmacy will hold a 2nd batch of Basic Clinical Pharmacy Workshop on 27-29 June 2019, and continued with Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Workshop on 10-12 September 2019.
