The main educational session was delivered through presentations, interactive discussions, and the distribution of leaflets and booklets containing information on cancer risk factors, warning signs, and early detection measures. Cancer prevention strategies were introduced through the acronym SLAMET, which stands for: seimbangkan makan dan istirahat, lakukan deteksi dini secara berkala, aktif bergerak, mengelola stres, edukasi diri terkait risiko kanker, serta tolak rokok dan alkohol (balance diet and rest, undergo regular early detection, stay active, manage stress, educate yourself about cancer risks, and reject cigarettes and alcohol).
Participants also received information on early detection of several types of cancer with high prevalence in Indonesia, including breast, cervical, prostate, colorectal, and lung cancer. At the end of the presentation, the team emphasized the important role of family and environment in cancer prevention efforts. The question and answer session provided an opportunity for the elderly to consult directly about cancer, prevention efforts, and clarification of various myths and facts that are often encountered in their environment.

One of the participants, Ganita, expressed his appreciation for this activity. “I hope that activities like this can continue and be held on various other occasions. This activity is very beneficial, especially for us, seniors, who need simple and easy-to-practice health knowledge,” she said. Through this activity, the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy community service team hopes that the elderly can improve their understanding of cancer risks and be able to consistently apply a healthy lifestyle. This program is part of the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy’s commitment to making a real contribution to society through educational activities, health services, and sustainable community service. 2025
