UGM Pharmacy Students to Promote Health Education at SMAN 1 Wonosobo

UGM Pharmacy – Master of Clinical Pharmacy students conducted a community service program at SMAN 1 Wonosobo as part of their initiative titled “Socialization of GERD Disease Among Teenagers in Wonosobo” (27/02). The program, led by Dr. apt. Fita Rahmawati, Sp. FRS., aimed to raise awareness about Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) among high school students, providing them with essential knowledge on the disease and its management.

The event targeted 11th-grade students, offering clear and accessible information through engaging classroom sessions. These discussions encouraged students to ask questions, share their experiences, and actively engage with the material. Alongside the presentations, students received goodie bags containing educational materials on GERD, as well as snacks and milk to promote overall well-being and highlight the importance of healthy living.

The initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by addressing GERD, providing students with practical knowledge to manage their health. It also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by enhancing students’ health literacy and empowering them to take charge of their well-being. The program further reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, showcasing the collaboration between the university, students, and the school to tackle health challenges together.

Through this GERD awareness campaign, Universitas Gadjah Mada shows its commitment to community empowerment and education. By addressing pressing health concerns and fostering collaboration, the program aims to contribute to a healthier, more informed, and inclusive society.
